September, 1999

Wow, what a month. My friend Tommy Grueskin came down to Myrtle Beach for my birthday, and then all hell broke loose. Or should I say, Floyd broke loose. First there was Hurricane Dennis, but Dennis was nothing compared to Floyd. They called for a mandatory evacuation of Myrtle Beach as forecasters predicted that they eye would pass directly over Myrtle Beach. All banks and grocery stores were closed, buildings were boarded up, and lines of cars were backed up for miles on the city's major east-west thoroughfares.

So I bolted to Charlotte for an evening, and showed up in Chicago to visit with some old friends attending a huge charity event put on by our good friends on VisionTek. Anyways, I'm glad that Floyd has gone, but the flooding in North Carolina is some of the worst I have seen.
